A tribute to the Bharatanatyam legend Padma Bhushan Kalanidhi Narayanan

We are sad to hear about the demise of eminent Bharatanatyam exponent and teacher, Padma Bhushan Kalanidhi Narayanan, on Sunday evening. She was known for being the early non-devadasi girl to learn the dance form and perform it on stage in the 1930s and 1940s. She was also one of the notable teachers of abhinaya and had students from all over the world. To most of them she was ‘Mami’.

Her contribution to the world of South Asian dance has shaped the art form of Bharatanatyam. At SADA, we pray for her soul and remember the wonderful person that she was.
