Teacher Refresh, organised by Dance UK in partnership with the National Dance Teacher’s Association (NDTA) and The Dance Register, provides professional development and networking afternoons for dance teachers. Taking place across the UK, Teacher Refresh offers inspiration and discussion on specific topics that are relevant to teachers, as well as the chance to meet and network with fellow dance educators. Events take place on weekend afternoons, so that teachers working in different settings (such as educational schools, private dance schools, vocational training, community and outreach) can attend.
Teacher Refresh 2014 is kindly sponsored by International Dance Supplies (IDS), the UK’s leading wholesale dancewear company: www.ids.co.uk
The next Teacher Refresh event is on Sunday 9 November, 2-5pm at Swindon Dance. The theme is imagery and how teachers can use it to help students improve technique, creativity and movement quality.
Erin Sanchez, Dance UK Healthier Dancer Programme Manager, will lead a practical session on imagery, which teachers can either participate in or watch. Focusing on fundamental movement and alignment principals (which are relevant regardless of dance genre or teaching context), the session will explore:
- Using anatomical knowledge to create effective images
- Encouraging students to develop their own images
- Creating images to enhance students’ movement quality
- Teaching with images that use different senses
The afternoon includes a panel discussion on the use of imagery with Erin, dance artist Joelle Pappas and dance education consultant Alysoun Tompkins. The afternoon will be completed with the chance to hear about the range of opportunities available for teachers at Swindon Dance and networking over tea and coffee.
