This quadruple bill includes Richard Alston’s world premiere, An Italian in Madrid, set to Scarlatti’s sonatas. The influence of flamenco on Scarlatti continues Alston’s fascination with the fusion of different cultures and styles and to explore this, Alston has invited BBC Young Dancer grand finalist Vidya Patel to join his company for this exciting new dance.
‘Alongside my company dancers is the very very talented young Kathak dancer, Vidya Patel, who brings her beautiful dance language to bear on my choreography hopefully in a way similar to the Spanish influence on Scarlatti.’ Richard Alston
The programme also includes Mazur – a duet for two men (including four time National Dance Award nominee Liam Riddick) to the lilting Mazurkas of Chopin – both Scarlatti and Chopin are played live by pianist Jason Ridgway.
- ★★★★★ “(Liam Riddick is) one of the most gifted, most intriguing male dancers in Britain today”
