The Odissi Ensemble is a quartet of dancers of diverse backgrounds, who will bring alive the form with live musical accompaniment. Odissi entrances with its crystalline geometry and powerful narrative. The stories of the gods are metaphors for humans with their everyday struggles and occasional triumphs. Donald Hutera writes of ‘odissi’s ability to embrace spectacle and emotion within a religious context’ (Pulse, Dec 2015).

The freshness of the Ensemble’s presentation keeps the classical form updated for the twenty-first century. The dancers are Elena Catalano, Kali Chandrasegaram, Mahina Khanum and Maryam Shakiba. They are accompanied by vocalist Ranjana GhatakMay Robertson on violin, Dhruv Jogia on percussion and conducted by Parvati Rajamani.
