In this specially curated event by Akademi, Sooraj Subramaniam performs his first evening of solo Bharatanatyam recital Margam enthralling the audiences through a series of dances, including his own choreography. The performance will be enhanced by a stellar ensemble of live traditional Carnatic music.

Margam, meaning path or way, refers to the traditional format in which solo Bharatanatyam has been performed since the early-19th century.  The dancer takes the audience on a journey, guiding them through rhythmic musical patterns, nuanced expressive mime, complex emotional narratives and scintillating pure dance.

Originating in the temples of south India, Bharatanatyam uses the central theme of love where the soloist employs highly stylised gestures and facial expressions to convey love-in-separation, devotion, anxiety and a range of other emotions.
