Using classical Kathak dance with puppetry, Amina Khayyam Dance Company presents a story of A Thousand Faces of women who are discriminately attacked because of their gender, often caught up within cultural expectations. A Thousand Faces is a bold dance piece where Amina Khayyam uses Kathak’s intricate and detailed theatrical movements of abhinaya for which she is acclaimed for her progressive work.

A Thousand Faces aims to raise awareness of acid violence, acid attacks against women are a worldwide phenomenon and are not restricted to any race, religion or region. Cases of attacks have been reported in the UK and occur in many countries in the South-East Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, the West Indies and the Middle East. These are the reported cases, however numerous cases go unreported. With little or no access to reconstructive surgery, survivors are physically and emotionally scarred. In Pakistan, for example, many reported assailants, typically a husband or someone else close to the victim, receive minimal to no punishment from the state.
