Elena Catalano is an Odissi dancer, teacher and scholar. She began and continues her training in India under guru Sujata and Ratikant Mohapatra. She works as dance lecturer at Kingston University, London, where she regularly teaches Odissi (technique, repertoire and composition), Yoga and Cultural Anthropology. She also offers one-to-one sessions and intensive workshops for children and adults.
Elena has received several accolades for her achievements both as a dancer and as a scholar. These include, among others, the prestigious ICCR Scholarship, the Milap Fellowship for Advanced training in Odissi, the DanceWeb Scholarship for emergent choreographers, financial support by Durham University Fund for the Performing Arts, and awards such as the Paola Bianchi, Pauline Hodgens and Premlata Sharma Awards for her research and scholarly writing on dance.
