Bharatanatyam Masterclass with Shane Shambhu

Shane Shambhu leads a Bharatanatyam Masterclass aimed at professional and semi-professional Bharatanatyam performers providing high-quality advanced training in Bharatanatyam technique and abhinaya. The focus will be on increasing knowledge and practical understandings of Bharatanatyam through new, exciting and highly challenging repertoire. Participants will learn and apply a deeper understanding of the mechanics of Nritta and gain working experiences of the emotional depths of Natya. The Masterclass is tailored to stimulate participants both physically and emotionally through an engaging and nurturing environment visibly raising the quality of participants’ Bharatanatyam performance.

Shane Shambhu, initially a student of Pushkala Gopal with further Bharatanatyam training from experts such as Leela Samson, Adayar K. Lakshmanan, Prof. C.V. Chandrasekhar and the Dhananjayans, has worked in the wider arts sector internationally for over 15 years. Shane Shambhu’s experience of working with contemporary dancers, actors, directors, choreographers and various high-profile companies including Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company, Nina Rajarani, Complicite, Icon Theatre, Theatre Ad Infinitum and New Art Club has deepened his working knowledge, depth and understanding of bharatanatyam. Drawing upon Shane’s performance experience and career in dance and theatre, through this Masterclass he is imparting working knowledge to provide new in-depth understanding to the underlying mechanics of Bharatanatyam and delivery of the dramatic and philosophical aspects of Bharatanatyam.
