Browsing the listings

Click on the type of event you are looking for in the menu at the top of the screen. For Performances, Dance Training and Community Events hover over Dance in the menu and select the type of listing you are looking for. For Jobs & Opportunites or Professional Practise hover over Professional Development and select the listings you desire. This will take you to an overview page, displaying all the events of that type. Alternatively, you can select Dance, Jobs & Opportunities, Dance Training or Professional Development via the Home page.

If you’d like to search for events happening in your region, click on your area in the UK map on the Home page. You will be taken to a regional page which shows all the different types of South Asian Dance events (performances, training, jobs and other events) happening in your area.

You can also use the Quick Search on the right hand side of the screen in the menu at the top. Enter a keyword and then click on the ‘Search’ button to see the results. You can also narrow down listings on each page by individual sub-category by

Searching the database

If you are looking for specific events (for example if you are looking for a performance taking place in London on a certain date) visit the advanced search page by clicking on Advanced Search in the left hand side of the menu bar at the top of the screen. This page helps you narrow your search by letting you choose particular words or dates to search for.

News

The News pages are where you can find out what is happening in the South Asian dance world. There is news about developments in the industry and the various dance organisations in the UK, news about upcoming events and also news concerning the direction of this website.

You can filter News by Category and Month/Year.

You can also tell us about your news and we will add it to the news page. Simply email Anita at anita@newdimensions-arts.com.

Newsletters

Newsletters are how we can keep you informed with what is happening in the South Asian dance world. We send out a monthly newsletter which contains all the latest news. To subscribe to (or unsubsribe from) the newsletter, join the site (see ‘Becoming a Member’ below) and login using your username and password.
You can then either click on ‘Subscribe’ or ‘Unsubscribe’ on your members area Homepage (to get to your homepage, click on My Homepage on the left of the members menu at the top of the screen) or you can go to ‘My Details’ page select either ‘Subscribe’ or ‘Unsubscribe’ in the form and press the ‘Save’ button at the bottom of the screen.

Benefits of joining

Southasiandance.org.uk is the leading online community promoting South Asian Dance in the UK. By joining this community you have access to people across the UK with an interest in South Asian dance. You can post news about your performances, training events, workshops and conferences to this site and know that this will reach a targeted audience. We manage the information for you, ensuring that it is taken off the site, once it it out of date. This website is also linked into a variety of other arts-related sites, attracting an even wider user base.

Becoming a member

To become a full member of the site, click on the ’Join‘ link by hovering over About in the Menu bar, then click ‘Join Now’ and enter your information – you will then receive and email to confirm your interest has been registered.

Once your membership has been set up, you will receive an email from us confirming your membership, and will then be able to login and access the advanced features of our site.

The following section is help for members, and explains in detail how to post information to the website. We hope you will enjoy the benefits of becoming a full member of southasiandance.org.uk

Logging into the website

To add a listing to the site, you will need to become a full member of southasiandance.org.uk – and you will need your user name and password to access the members area of the website. (see ‘Becoming a member’ section above)

If you were a member on the old SADAA website, your username and password will be the same.
If you have forgotten your password, use the ‘Lost Password’ link on the Login page to set up a new password.
Once you have your user name and password, click on ‘Login’ (button found top right)

Once logged in, you will be taken to the backstage area of the website, where you are able to make changes to your profile page and post listings.

Changing your contact details

When you register with southasiandance.org.uk the website will hold contact information that you submit about you and your company. We may use this to let you know about new developments or other information about the running of this site. If you need to change this contact information you can easily do so by Logging into the website. Going to ‘Profile’. Making any required changes, and then click on ‘Update Profile’ – our files will be instantly updated.

Editing your profile & changing your password

You profile can show on the front of the website under the Members Directory section.

To Editing & adding to your profile

  • Once Logged in, click ‘Profile’
  • To change your password:
    • Scroll down to ‘New Password’ and fill out
    • Repeat in the next field
  • Adding to your profile (with a view to displaying it publicly):
    • Enter ‘Nickname’
    • Change ‘Display name publicly’
    • Scroll down, enter ‘Website’
    • Enter a ‘Description’ of your organisation
    • Upload any images to the Image Gallery:
      • Click ‘Add to gallery’
      • Upload any new images
      • Click ‘Select’
      • Once your images are in the Gallery panel, you can then reorder them by dragging and dropping
      • Make sure the image you want to show on the artist overview page is the first image on the left
      • To add image captions:
        • Click on the image added to gallery
        • On the right a image editing box will appear
        • Enter caption text
        • Click ‘Update’
      • Adding Videos:
        • Upload the Video to Vimeo (https://vimeo.com) or YouTube (https://www.youtube.com)
        • Once you have uploaded the Video online, click on the Video so you are taken to the Video page
        • Copy the Video page URL
        • Back backstage click ‘Add Video’
        • Paste the Video page URL
        • Use the minus sign, found in the grey column on the right, to delete a video
        • To change the order of the videos:
          • Hover over the video number, in the left column, until you see your mouse change to a crossed arrows symbol
          • Drag and drop the videos into the right order
        • Adding Audio:
          • Upload the audio file to SoundCloud (https://soundcloud.com/) or Mix Cloud (http://www.mixcloud.com/) or another audio upload website

Adding a performance listing

The Performances section is for all dance performances. These are listed by published date. To Create a New Performance

  • Go to Performances (in the side menu) > Add New
  • Enter a title/name
  • SEO by Yoast – please ignore this section
  • Type the main text or if you are pasting from Word or a website page, please ensure that you click on the ‘Paste as text’ symbol . This will ensure that any unwanted formatting is removed from the original content.
  • Adding Videos:
    • Upload the Video to Vimeo (https://vimeo.com) or YouTube (https://www.youtube.com)
    • Once you have uploaded the Video, click on the Video so you are taken to the Video page
    • Copy the Video page URL
    • Back in WordPress click ‘Add Video’
    • Paste the Video page URL
    • Use the minus sign, found in the grey column on the right, to delete a video
    • To change the order of the videos:
      • Hover over the video number, in the left column, until you see your mouse change to a crossed arrows symbol
      • Drag and drop the videos into the right order
    • Adding Audio:
      • Upload the audio file to SoundCloud (https://soundcloud.com/) or Mix Cloud (http://www.mixcloud.com/) or another audio upload website
      • Once you have uploaded the audio online
      • Copy the audio page URL
      • Back backstage click ‘Add Audio’

      • Enter a time (e.g. 8pm)
      • Enter a price (e.g. £12 – £14)
      • Enter a venue name
      • Enter a venue address and hit enter so that the Google map puts a pin down at that address
      • Enter the website promoting or selling tickets for the performance (make sure the URL starts http://)
      • Enter a box office telephone no.
      • Enter a subtitle
      • Tick the Arangetram box if this is an Arangetram performance
      • Use Gallery to add any performance images
        • Click ‘Add to gallery’
        • Upload a new images
        • Click Select
        • Once your images are in the Gallery panel, you can then reorder them by dragging and dropping
        • Make sure the image you want to show on the artist overview page is the first image on the left
        • To add image captions:
          • Click on the image added to gallery
          • On the right a image editing box will appear
          • Enter caption text
          • Click Update
        • AddToAny allows you to hide the social media sharing buttons for that Artist – only un-tick this if you don’t want your post shared
        • On the right hand side is a Publish panel, here you can Save Draft or Preview
        • Select any relevant Dance Styles by clicking in the field and then selecting from the drop down (the performance can then be filtered by dance style on the front end of the website)
        • Select the Region/Area by clicking in the field and then selecting from the drop down (the performance can then be filtered by location on the front end of the website)
        • You don’t need to set a ‘Featured Image’ if you have already uploaded images to the gallery
        • Click on the blue Publish button – top right – to make the post live

Adding a dance training listing

The Dance Training section is for all dance training events, classes and workshops. These are listed by published date.

To Create a New Dance Training event

  • Go to Dance Training (in the side menu) > click ‘Add New’
  • Enter a ‘Title’/name
  • ‘SEO by Yoast’ – please ignore this section
  • Type the main text or if you are pasting from Word or a website page, please ensure that you click on the ‘Paste as text’ symbol . This will ensure that any unwanted formatting is removed from the original content.
  • Adding Videos:

      • If the training is on going, tick the ‘Ongoing’ box. You don’t need to set a start or end date if the training is on going.
      • Enter a ‘time’ (e.g. 8pm)
      • Enter a ‘price’ (e.g. £12 – £14)
      • Enter any text about the ‘Style and level of the training’
      • Enter a ‘venue’ name
      • Enter a ‘venue address’ and hit enter so that the Google map puts a pin down at that address
      • Enter the ‘website’ (make sure the URL starts with http://)
      • Enter the name of the ‘Lead teacher’
      • Enter their ’email’ address
      • Enter their ‘phone’ no.
      • Use Gallery to add any images
        • Click ‘Add to gallery’
        • Upload a new images
        • Click ‘Select’
        • Once your images are in the Gallery panel, you can then reorder them by dragging and dropping
        • Make sure the image you want to show on the artist overview page is the first image on the left
        • To add image captions:
          • Click on the image added to gallery
          • On the right a image editing box will appear
          • Enter caption text
          • Click ‘Update’

To Create a New Job/Opportunity

Your use of this website is subject to the acceptance of following Terms and Conditions:

1.    southasiandance.org.uk accepts no liability to any person for loss or damages incurred as a result of reliance upon this website.

2.    southasiandance.org.uk are not responsible for the content of any linked sites and the inclusion of any link does not imply any endorsement of that linked site.

3.    By logging on, you will be assuming all risks associated with use of the site, including risk of your computer, software or data being damaged by any virus which might be transmitted or activated via the southasiandance.org.uk site or your access to it.

4.    Any materials submitted to southasiandance.org.uk for presentation on this site may be edited for reasons of style, content or available space. Information appearing on this site is subject to change, addition, or deletion without notice.

5.    southasiandance.org.uk accepts no responsibility for the content of messages placed by members, however the right is reserved to remove any offensive, defamatory, libellous or discriminatory material, or any junk mail.

6.    Your membership is not transferable and membership fees are non-refundable.

7.    You have the right to withdraw your membership at any time and without providing reason however a refund for the ‘unused’ portion of the membership will not be provided.

 

Privacy policy

1.    southasiandance.org.uk will collect data about you and/or your organisation through the membership registration and renewals process. We will process and store your data in accordance with the Data Protection Act

2.    When you register as a member we collect from you such personal data as is required to properly administrate your membership subscription but will not collect sensitive data about you (race or ethnic origin, religious or other beliefs etc).

3.    We use this information to effectively administrate your membership subscription and to provide you with a more personalised experience. We will also use this data for marketing purposes about our work, products and services and those with whom we collaborate and seek your permission to do this.

4.    You can check, change or update the information that we hold about you at any time by logging in and clicking on ‘My details’ in the Members menu at the top of the page.

5.    We use cookies to save your password so you won‘t have to enter your password every time you visit. You can adjust the preferences of your browser to prevent this happening if you prefer.

Cancellation Clause

You have a right to cancel your membership without a reason within 14 days of joining the membership.

To cancel your membership within 14 days of joining, you must contact us via email at editor@southasiandance.org.uk or by writing to us at:

southasiandance.org.uk Membership Cancellation, Akademi South Asian Dance UK, 213 Haverstock Hill, London, NW3 4QP.

To meet the cancellation deadline, it is enough for you to send your communication to us confirming your right to cancel before the cancellation period has expired.

If you cancel your membership, we will reimburse your membership fees minus an administration fee of £3 and the cost of any benefits you may have used during this period.
